2) Publication partnerships with organizations & individuals.

We reach out directly to organizations and individuals who align with our mission and vision to amplify their work, offering a more extensive publishing partnership. We have worked with organizations such as the Harmony Movement, Policing-Free Schools, and the Wellbeing Scientist. Please see details below to learn more about working with us.

Submission Guidelines

For Hot Topics, Features, Short Stories, Poems, Videos, Art, and Music

Submitting: To submit your work after reading our submission guidelines below (or if you have any questions!), please email our team at team@the44northmedia.ca

Deadlines: We accept submissions year-round. However, the deadline for each issue is two weeks before publication unless otherwise specified. We publish six issues a year, on the first Monday of the month, in: December, February, April, June, August and October. An example deadline would be January 26th, 2026, for a February 9th, 2026 publication date.

  1. WHO YOU ARE: All submissions must be accompanied by a brief cover letter that describes your work/submission. If you have any questions regarding submitting your work, feel free to email us at: team@the44northmedia.ca

  2. ANONYMITY: If, due to the personal nature of a piece, you don’t want your name published, please let us know when submitting your work. We will respect your request and not publish your name (we can also use initials only) in print or online, but we must still have accurate name and address information for every contributor.

  3. SUBJECT MATTER: We encourage you to write about issues you have lived experience with, or are passionate about. While it doesn't need to be topical, try to connect the article to current world events. We also encourage you to end on a message of hope or provide resources related to your issue. This doesn’t mean you should avoid tough issues or controversial topics, but provide a conclusion that is actionable.

  4. RATING: Our suggested rating for all content is “14+.” Keep your main audience in mind (teens & young adults), and avoid using hurtful language, hate speech, graphic images or violent content. Offensive entries will not be considered for publication. All work should be consistent with our mandate to “inform, empower, and inspire” young people, and will be selected and published at the discretion of our editors.

  5. FORMAT: All written work should be submitted as follows: in a Word document, Times New Roman font, 12 point size, with minimal formatting (no headers/footers/graphics, etc.).

  6. EDITING: Editing is an important part of the writing process, and we want you to show your best work! Free, professional editing services are offered for all written pieces selected for publication.

  7. VISUAL ART & PHOTOGRAPHY: We accept digital submissions only. Please do not send us the original piece. Visual art should be photographed at a good resolution and sent as a .jpg file or using Google Drive. If you need advice on photographing your work, give us a shout!

  8. MUSIC: Please send your work as a .wav file or use a SoundCloud or YouTube link.

  9. PLAGIARISM: The 44 North has a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism. Enough said!

  10. NOTIFICATION: If your work is selected for publication, you will be notified by email.
