At the beginning of a new year, each of us is encouraged to jump in with vivacious energy. We are told that to get to where we want to go, slay those big goals, or accomplish the dreams that have been set on the variety of virtual or tactile vision boards we have created, we must resolve ourselves to be a new version.

I remember vividly standing in a Walmart checkout line several years ago looking at a photo of Chrissy Teigen on the front page of some celebrity gossip magazine with the title “Chrissy flaunts rolls at the beach.”

The mythology still bought into by too many is that street harassment is harmless, that many women enjoy the attention, and that as long as it’s not derogatory, it’s okay.
